Banzai Pipeline

Banzai Pipeline, North Shore, Oahu, HI

About This Camera

The Banzai Pipeline is one of the most famous and dangerous surf breaks in the world, located on Oahu's North Shore near Ehukai Beach Park. This live camera captures the legendary reef break where massive, hollow waves barrel over a shallow coral shelf just a few hundred yards from shore. During the winter months from November through February, the Pipeline comes alive with swells from the North Pacific that produce waves regularly exceeding 15 to 20 feet. This is the proving ground for professional surfing. The Pipe Masters, one of the most prestigious contests in surfing, takes place here every winter as part of the Championship Tour. On big days, you can watch the world's best surfers take on waves that are as beautiful as they are dangerous. The shallow reef has claimed lives and broken boards for decades — it's not a break that forgives mistakes. During the summer months from May through September, the North Shore goes flat, and Pipeline transforms into a calm, crystal-clear swimming spot popular with families and snorkelers. The contrast is remarkable. Best viewing times for big surf are early morning (6-9 AM HST) when conditions are typically cleanest with offshore winds grooming the wave faces. Sunset sessions from 4-6 PM also offer spectacular viewing with golden light illuminating the barrels. Nearby attractions include Sunset Beach, Shark's Cove for snorkeling, the historic town of Haleiwa for shave ice and plate lunches, and Waimea Bay — another world-class big wave spot just a few minutes down the road.
