About This Camera
This is the world-famous Decorah Eagles live nest cam near Decorah, in the bluff country of northeast Iowa — one of the most-watched wildlife streams ever, with hundreds of millions of views over the years. Run in partnership with the Raptor Resource Project and explore.org, the camera gives an intimate, close-up look at a wild pair of bald eagles as they tend their massive stick nest above a trout hatchery.
The drama follows the breeding season: courtship and nest-building in late winter, eggs typically laid in February, hatching around March, and then weeks of watching the parents feed and raise the eaglets until they fledge in early summer. It's most active during daylight; the adults trade off incubation and hunting, and the nest can be riveting (and occasionally raw — this is real nature). Iowa is on Central Time, five hours ahead of Hawaii.
For decades the Decorah nest has been a touchstone for eagle lovers and classrooms worldwide, helping celebrate the bald eagle's recovery from near-extinction. The driftless region around Decorah — spring-fed trout streams, limestone bluffs, and hardwood forest — is prime habitat for the national bird.
