About This Camera
This camera frames Sydney Harbour — one of the most recognizable cityscapes on Earth — with the white sails of the Sydney Opera House and the steel arch of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in view. The harbour (officially Port Jackson) is a deep natural inlet that has been the heart of Sydney since 1788, and the feed captures its constant motion: ferries crisscrossing to Manly and Parramatta, sailboats, cruise ships at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, and tour boats threading the coves.
Sydney is on Australian Eastern Time, which runs 20 hours ahead of Hawaii — so the harbour's daytime is roughly the previous afternoon and evening in the islands, and you'll often be watching Sydney's morning light while it's still the day before at home. The most striking views come at sunrise behind the Bridge, at sunset on the Opera House sails, and after dark when the whole waterfront lights up. On New Year's Eve this is the stage for one of the first and most famous fireworks shows in the world.
Around the harbour sit the Royal Botanic Garden, the historic Rocks district, Circular Quay, and Bondi Beach a short trip away. It remains a working harbour as well as a global icon.
