Hanalei Bay Resort

Hanalei, Kauai, HI

About This Camera

This live camera streams from Hanalei Bay Resort on the north shore of Kauai, overlooking one of the most breathtaking bays in all of Hawaii. Hanalei Bay is a two-mile crescent of golden sand framed by emerald mountains and dramatic sea cliffs — a landscape that has appeared in countless films and postcards. The camera captures the wide sweep of the bay, the turquoise water, and the lush ridgeline of the Namolokama mountain range that rises sharply behind the town. Hanalei Bay is a year-round destination with dramatically different seasonal personalities. During the winter months from October through April, the north shore receives powerful swells from the North Pacific that produce world-class surf along the outer reef. On big days, waves can reach 15 to 20 feet, drawing experienced surfers from around the world. Summer brings calm, flat water ideal for swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, and snorkeling along the reef edges. Best viewing times are early morning (6-9 AM HST) when the bay is glassy and the first light illuminates the mountains. Sunset sessions are equally spectacular as the sun dips toward the horizon and paints the sky behind the Makana ridgeline — the iconic peak featured in the movie South Pacific. Whale watching is excellent from December through April when humpback whales pass through the channel offshore. The town of Hanalei is a small, charming community with local restaurants, surf shops, taro fields, and the historic Waioli Huiia Church. Nearby attractions include Tunnels Beach, the Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali Coast, Lumahai Beach, and the Hanalei Pier — one of the most photographed landmarks on Kauai.
