Nkorho Bush Lodge — Sabi Sand, South Africa
Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, South Africa
About This Camera
This live safari camera overlooks a waterhole at Nkorho Bush Lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, a private reserve sharing an unfenced boundary with South Africa's Kruger National Park. Sabi Sand is arguably the best place in the world to see leopard in the wild, and the camera regularly catches the full cast of the African bush coming to drink — elephant, buffalo, kudu, impala, warthog, and the big cats that follow them.
Because southern Africa's wildlife concentrates around water, the action peaks in the dry winter months (May–September) when seasonal pans dry up and animals are forced to permanent waterholes. The best sightings come at first light and in the last hour before dark, when predators are active and the heat has eased — the same "golden hours" the safari guides plan their drives around. South Africa is on UTC+2, so dawn there is mid-afternoon the previous day in Hawaii.
Sabi Sand pioneered low-impact photographic safaris, and its lodges are known for off-road tracking and close, respectful big-cat encounters. Beyond the Big Five (lion, leopard, eleph, buffalo, rhino), watch for wild dog, cheetah, hyena, and well over 300 bird species across the reserve.
