Keystone Snow Stake
Keystone, CO · Snapshot · Keystone snow numbers
A stake numbered from 1 to 18 stands on a white board, with a dial thermometer behind it. Read the number at the top of the snow on the board.
16 ski resorts, each with live cameras, from Aspen and Jackson Hole to Alyeska and Lapland, ranked by how much new snow the weather model puts on each summit in the last 72 hours. Watch the snow stakes fill, check the summit before you drive, and see which resorts have published their 2026–27 opening day.
Most new snow in the last 72 hours, by the model: Timberline Lodge, 17 in (44 cm). 8 of the 16 resorts here have had half an inch or more. The most snow in the next 7 days is forecast for Timberline Lodge: 18 in (45 cm).
New snow is the Open-Meteo weather model’s estimate at each resort’s summit elevation, added up hour by hour; “next 7 days” is its forecast. These are model estimates, not the resorts’ own measurements, and the model can miss snow from small, local storms. Each resort’s official snow report is linked on its card.
Computed when this page was built on 27 October 2026 at 19:09 UTC from Open-Meteo’s forecast models. Your browser refreshes it and re-ranks the resorts.
A snow stake cam points at a numbered ruler on a white board. The board is cleared at a set time, so the snow on it is the new snow since then: the plainest answer to “did it snow last night?”.

Lutsen’s dates are its Thanksgiving opening weekend.
A snow stake is a ruler fixed upright on a flat board, usually painted white, in a sheltered spot on the mountain. A camera points at it, and the depth of snow on the board is the new snow since the board was last cleared. Each resort sets its own clearing time: Aspen Snowmass clears its stakes every 24 hours and counts its 24-hour total from 4 pm, and Palisades Tahoe clears its stake at 5 am and 5 pm. Wind can blow snow off the board or drift it in, and fresh snow settles as it sits, so the official snow report is the resort’s measured number.
It depends on the resort and the snow. Of the resorts on this page that have published a date, Palisades Tahoe is first on 25 November 2026, then Aspen Mountain, Snowmass and Ski Santa Fe on 26 November, Jackson Hole, Schweitzer and Lutsen on 27 November, Alyeska on 28 November, Stevens Pass on 4 December and Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk on 12 December. Keystone aims to open in October, Killington has no date and opens when it can, and Levi in Finland began its season on 2 October. Every one of these can move with the weather.
The ranking at the top of this page orders the resorts by the new snow the Open-Meteo weather model estimates at each summit over the last 72 hours, and your browser refreshes it when you open the page. Model numbers can differ from a resort’s own stake, so check the official snow report linked on each resort before you drive.
No. They are model estimates from Open-Meteo, asked for each resort’s summit elevation, not measurements. Resorts measure new snow at their own stake plots, at set times, and publish it in their snow report. Use this page to see where the storms are going and the cams to see the snow, and the resort’s report for the official number.
Of the resorts on this page, Alyeska in Alaska says it gets over 669 inches a year. Stevens Pass (460 inches) and Jackson Hole (458 inches) give the highest averages of the rest. Average figures come from each resort’s own stats where it publishes one, otherwise Wikipedia, and resorts measure them at different points on the mountain, so treat them as a rough comparison.
Summit cameras often sit inside the cloud during a storm, which is exactly when the snow is falling, so a grey frame can be good news. At night most cameras show little unless the resort lights the scene, as Keystone does for its snow stake. A panorama camera also takes its picture at intervals, so the frame may be some minutes old.
Snowfall and temperature: Open-Meteo forecast models (CC BY 4.0), at each resort’s summit elevation; model estimates, not measurements. Opening days, elevations and average snowfall: each resort’s own site where it publishes them, otherwise Wikipedia, as linked; checked on 22 October 2026. Camera feeds belong to their operators, named on each camera page.
