About these cameras
This is a small collection by design — genuine aurora cameras are rare because they need dark-sky sites at high latitude. The Fairbanks camera sits under the auroral oval in interior Alaska; the Posio camera covers Finnish Lapland, nine time zones away, which matters more than it sounds: when it is daylight in Alaska it is night in Lapland, so between the two of them one is almost always in darkness.
The third feed is the NOAA aurora-forecast map rather than a camera — it shows the modeled auroral oval for the next half hour, which is the quickest way to decide whether to keep watching. Aurora season runs roughly late August through mid-April at these latitudes; around the equinoxes activity is statistically strongest.
