Kilauea — Kwcam

Kilauea, Usgs

About This Camera

A USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory panorama (KW) sweeping across Halemaʻumaʻu crater and the floor of Kīlauea's summit caldera on Hawaii Island. The wide framing captures the scale of the crater that has hosted the volcano's recent summit eruptions, and the dramatic scarps left when the caldera floor collapsed more than 1,500 feet during the 2018 events. During eruptions the panorama shows fountaining and glowing vents — vivid after dark — while quiet spells reveal the steaming, fractured floor. Summit weather near 4,000 feet shifts quickly between clear, rain, and vog. Hawaii keeps one time zone year-round.
