Kilauea — S1cam Sulfur Banks

This USGS camera (S1) monitors the upper Southwest Rift Zone of Kīlauea on Hawaii Island — the less-frequently-active counterpart to the busy East Rift. Magma occasionally intrudes along this rift, and short-lived eruptions have broken out here historically. The view shows the broad, sparsely vegetated rift terrain southwest of the summit. Watching it lets scientists detect cracking, steaming, or fresh vents early if the system reactivates this direction. Part of the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory network in Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park. Hawaii observes no daylight saving time.
